Nigerian customs impound 250 bags of rice hidden in fuel tanker

 Following the closure of the Nigerian borders, some rice smugglers seem to have resorted to desperate measures to smuggle contraband into the country. One such measure was discovered by vigilant officers of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) who impounded 250 bags of foreign rice concealed in a fuel tanker along Daura-Kano road on Friday, October 18.

Daily Trust reports that the seizure was made by the Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigerian Customs Service. The controller of the command, Comptroller Nasir Ahmed, described the method adopted by smugglers to conceal goods as challenging to detect. He raised the concern that such a method could be replicated in the smuggling any form of contra bound ranging from drugs, arms, and ammunition or any other prohibited goods because it will be very difficult to uncover.

Ahmed, however, noted that men of the customs service will brace up to the challenge through intelligence and diligence.
