Biyi Otegbeye |
The sparkle in Ilaro was to be expected. Barrister Biyi Otegbeye, scion of the town and a pride of Ogun State, arrived in the town for a political event. It was on a very good day with clement weather condition: Thursday, 12th April 2018.
Ebullient scenes overtook Otegbeye's country home, venue of the meeting with over 300 people among his supporters. As many as the supporters were, there was class and organisation. The discipline in the conduct of the supporters signposted the kind of attribute in a leader that deserves higher calling.
It was a family meeting of like minds that showed interest in the positive developments of Ogun state especially under the incumbent governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Barrister Otegbeye, who was recently appointed as a member of Ogun State Judicial Service Commission, used the opportunity to again thank the governor for the appointment, vowing to make a mark as a member of APC in the state.
The BOT founder disclosed that he would soon embark on a tour of 236 wards in the state to mobilise support for APC and Amosun administration.
He appreciated the governor for his unwavering stance on Ogun West for Governor in 2019 and the ongoing construction work in Ilaro-Owode road, Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia and developments in Ogun West.
As we march towards the 2019 general elections, the BOT founder urged his supporters to obtain the Permanent Voter's Cards (PVC) and go back to their various units and wards to mobilise for the success of the party.
Hundreds of people had indicated interest to the BOT founder to join the APC in the State and to the delight of the gathering, he promised to arrange a meeting with Senator Ibikunle Amosun so that they can be officially received by the party.
He also urged them to accept and work for the flag bearer of the party in the 2019 governorship election as may be presented by APC from Ogun West.
Several people who spoke at the meeting applauded Amosun's administration for the landmark developments in the state and Barrister Otegbeye's decision to lead them to APC. Many expressed the need to prevail on our brothers and sisters from Ogun East to drop their interest in the position of governor and support Ogun West which has not produced the governor since the creation of the state over 40 years ago.
Other responders wanted to know whether Barrister Otegbeye had interest in 2019 governorship race to which he responded that only God enthrones kings.
In consonance with the philanthropic philosophy of Building Opportunities For Tomorrow (BOT), each participant at the meeting were given a 50kg bag of rice and a keg of groundnut oil.
The meeting indicates the can-do and team spirit in the BOT founder which will be brought to bear on political landscape of the state in the coming days. He will engage party supporters across the wards and use his God given talents and resources to promote the progressive ideals of the party and the programmes of Amosun-led administration.
